Before you start
For reference only. The rates and procedures below are indicative (2026 tariffs, France). Every home is different: check with your electrician and your electricity supplier to confirm the exact cost before committing.
1. Is your electricity contract big enough?
In France, the power you subscribe to with your supplier is measured in kVA, usually between 6 and 12 kVA for a house. A sauna heater draws almost its full rated power during the warm-up phase: added to what your home is already using at the same time (water heater, induction hob, EV charger, electric heating…), it can trip your installation if your contract is too small.
| Subscribed power | Annual standing charge |
|---|---|
| 6 kVA | 187,80 € |
| 9 kVA | 234,72 € |
| 12 kVA | 279,84 € |
EDF regulated Tarif Bleu, Base option, indicative (2026).
Our advice: have your available power checked before the installation. Our advisors can estimate with you whether your current contract is enough or whether an upgrade is needed, and depending on the heater you choose, the required tier may differ.
2. How much does a power upgrade cost?
The extra cost on your annual standing charge, tier by tier
| Change | Standing charge before | Standing charge after | Extra cost per year |
|---|---|---|---|
| 3 → 6 kVA | 144,96 € | 187,80 € | +42,84 €/year |
| 6 → 9 kVA | 187,80 € | 234,72 € | +46,92 €/year |
| 9 → 12 kVA | 234,72 € | 279,84 € | +45,12 €/year |
| 12 → 15 kVA | 279,84 € | 322,08 € | +42,24 €/year |
| 15 → 18 kVA | 322,08 € | 361,68 € | +39,60 €/year |
| 18 → 24 kVA | 361,68 € | 439,44 € | +77,76 €/year |
| 24 → 30 kVA | 439,44 € | 517,20 € | +77,76 €/year |
| 30 → 36 kVA | 517,20 € | 595,32 € | +78,12 €/year |
The Enedis fees for making the change
The fee for changing power is set by Enedis, the French grid operator, whichever supplier you use. It appears on your next bill, but is passed on in full to Enedis.
| Type of meter / service | Price incl. VAT |
|---|---|
| Linky smart meter: remote change | 4,28 € |
| Linky or standard meter + circuit breaker adjustment (up to 36 kVA) | 43,96 € |
| Power change + circuit breaker replacement | 65,45 € |
| Power change + switch from single-phase to three-phase | 184,84 € |
| Standard (non-smart) meter: technician visit required | 43,96 € |

Point to watch: depending on the heater you choose, a switch from single-phase to three-phase may be necessary (more often the case with a more powerful heater such as the Core 11 kW than with a Hive Mini 9 kW, depending on your home’s existing installation). In that case the cost of the change rises to 184,84 € instead of the 4,28 € of a simple remote change. An Ørigin advisor can help you anticipate this point before the quotation.
3. How much electricity does a sauna session cost?
The heater does not run at full power for the whole session: it heats hard at the start (warm-up), then cycles on and off to hold the temperature. Here is a realistic estimate for two of the most popular Huum heaters in the Ørigin range.
| Model | Warm-up | Holding | Energy / session | Cost / session |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Huum Hive Mini 9 kW | 30 min at full power | 30 min at ~50 % | ≈ 6,75 kWh | ≈ 1,35 € |
| Huum Core 11 kW | 40 min at full power | 40 min at ~50 % | ≈ 11 kWh | ≈ 2,20 € |
Based on 0,2001 €/kWh (EDF Tarif Bleu, Base option, indicative). These figures vary with the cabin’s insulation, the outside temperature and the actual length of your session.

4. Examples of monthly cost by how often you use it
| Sessions / week | Huum Hive Mini 9 kW | Huum Core 11 kW |
|---|---|---|
| 1× | 5,85 € / month | 9,53 € / month |
| 2× | 11,70 € / month | 19,06 € / month |
| 3× | 17,55 € / month | 28,60 € / month |
| 5× | 29,25 € / month | 47,66 € / month |
Even at 3 sessions a week, the budget stays close to a streaming subscription. The sauna remains one of the most economical wellbeing appliances to run day to day, especially compared with a spa or a hot tub.
5. The total electrical budget, in summary
| Item | Amount incl. VAT |
|---|---|
| Ørigin installation (assembly + dedicated mini consumer unit) | 5 445 € |
| Your electrician’s work (main consumer unit) | As quoted by your electrician |
| Trenching or cable concealment, if needed | To be priced in the Ørigin quotation |
| Power upgrade, if needed | Between 4,28 € and 184,84 € in one-off Enedis fees, plus around 40 to 78 € a year on the standing charge depending on the tier |
| Electricity consumption, depending on use | Between 6 € and 48 € a month depending on the model and how often you use it |
6. Who does what? What the Ørigin package includes

The electrical installation of a sauna involves up to three separate jobs. Here is how they are shared out:
Included in the Ørigin package
- ✓Complete assembly of the sauna
- ✓Connection of a second mini consumer unit, dedicated to the sauna
- ✓Fitting the circuit breaker in that mini unit for the sauna and the appliances sold by Ørigin
Not included: your electrician’s responsibility
Adding the dedicated power, circuit breaker and cable in your existing main consumer unit, to feed the Ørigin mini unit. This work must be carried out by your own qualified electrician, and priced by them according to your installation.
Not included: to be priced in the quotation
Trenching or cable concealment, if there is some distance between the sauna’s location and your consumer unit. Ørigin can take care of it, but this item must be priced at quotation stage, case by case.
Not included: your electricity supplier’s responsibility
Upgrading your electricity contract, if its current power is not enough for the sauna (see sections 1 and 2).
Not sure how much power you have available? Book a call with an Ørigin expert advisor: they will assess your current electrical installation with you and tell you exactly what to plan for, with no nasty surprises. Remember to confirm the exact amounts with your electrician and your electricity supplier.
